The NZQA 2026 English proficiency table includes LANGUAGECERT Academic and International ESOL. These rules require a LanguageCert-approved test centre. Your institution may set higher scores or separate programme requirements; check your offer before buying.

Routes and score requirements
Foundation / pathway programmes
Check the programme level in the offer, the corresponding NZQA minimum and any higher per-skill score set by the provider.
Undergraduate (Bachelor degrees)
Use the institution's accepted-test page and the NZQA table together. Programmes such as teaching, health or law can use higher or separate English requirements.
Postgraduate (Masters & PhD)
Confirm the required overall score, each skill minimum and whether the programme applies a higher writing or research-language standard.
Vocational and institute qualifications
Check the exact qualification level and provider. Do not choose B1, B2 or another target from the programme name alone.
Student visa (Immigration New Zealand)
Admission evidence and visa evidence are not automatically the same. Check the current Immigration New Zealand instructions for your application and use only the evidence they request.
Professional registration (teaching, nursing, engineering)
Professional bodies set their own accepted tests and score rules. Confirm directly with the relevant regulator before paying for an exam.
Recognition and delivery options
Is LANGUAGECERT recognised by NZQA?
Yes. The current NZQA table includes LANGUAGECERT Academic and International ESOL outcomes for international student programme levels. The institution still decides its accepted test, score and delivery mode.
Do New Zealand universities accept it?
Universities and ITPs set their own admission standards. NZQA recognition means LANGUAGECERT is on the accepted-tests framework — confirm the institution's exact minimum score before booking.
Can I take the test online?
For admission under the NZQA English proficiency rules, take LanguageCert at an approved test centre. Do not buy the at-home version for this requirement. If your institution follows different admission rules, get its confirmation first.
Results, test day and booking questions
How long is the result valid?
The institution and any visa process set the validity window. Confirm both before choosing a test date.
How fast are results released?
LanguageCert currently lists Academic results in about 5 working days. International ESOL timelines depend on the exam and delivery mode, so check the selected product before booking.
What ID do I need?
Bring the accepted identity document specified in your booking and make sure the name matches exactly.
Will Immigration New Zealand accept LANGUAGECERT for my student visa?
Do not assume institutional acceptance automatically answers the visa question. Check the current Immigration New Zealand instructions for your exact application before relying on the result.
What if I need a single CEFR level instead of a multilevel score?
Take LANGUAGECERT International ESOL at the specific level your offer names (A1–C2). It is a single-level exam, not a band score.
Can I retake the test if I miss the score?
Check the current retake terms for the selected exam, then allow enough time for preparation, another sitting and result release before your deadline.
